< ANAMIKA >

Prologue

The sunlight stabbed through the rents in the foggy morning clouds, their lights refracting and reflecting off the dewdrops on the hedges; shining bright like diamonds.

Anamika sat on the steps with a frown, tears rolling down her cheeks. She wiped the tears with the back of her hand. She sat there looking at the ants that ate away, the crumbs of biscuits lying by her feet.

“Hey Good morning Anu” I called to her, as I opened the gate and walked in. I took the roll of newspaper lying on the tiled walkway.

She lifted her head and looked at me, and then turned her head down to hide her tears- may be.

I took her up in my arms and walked into her home, she buried her face on my shoulders.

Anamika

Anamika woke up and stayed awake in her bed. Sun shone bright through the window on her right.
“Mommaaaaaaaaaa….” She called out.

She searched for her teddy bear, her silent companion. There it was near her little legs. She pulled it by its ears and took it in her arms.

She turned her face away from the window and rolled to her left, hugged her teddy bear, her chin resting on its head and closed her eyes and waited for her mom. The teddy bear smelled of chocolate.

Her mom came in, gave her a kiss and took her away in her arms; teddy bear hung by its ears in the tight grip of her little fingers accompanied them.

..
..

It was Rusty her little dog who discovered the new visitors at her home. Two little birds on the “Yellow Tree” as she calls it.
Rusty and Anamika stood watching the birds go in and out of the leaves at the yellow tree twittering. It was fun watching them. She sat besides her dog.

All of a sudden Rusty gave a bark, may be his way of greeting the newcomers. Anamika was startled, so was the birds. They stopped their twitter and flew to a higher branch.
“Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh..” said Anamika to Rusty, making a gesture of “Shut Up” with her little hands.

..
..

She ran inside to her home. Rusty following her.
“Mom!!!! I want to show you something” said Anamika and started pulling her mom by her hand.

“What?” enquired her mom?

“Two Small birds on the “Yellow Tree”. Come..Moma…Come”

Her mom followed her. Anamika ran ahead of her and stood under the “Yellow Tree” waiting for her mom.

“Quick..Quick…” shouted Anamika in excitement.

“They are making a nest, so do not disturb them” her mom told Anamika.

”Wow!! Why on our ‘Yellow Tree’ ?” asked Anamika as it was according to her the shortest and leanest of the trees in her compound.

“May be its safe….” Her mom really didn’t have an answer.

It is safe, since her brother was away at OOTY doing his schooling and he won’t be around to kick the football into the tree; Rusty cannot reach the nest too. So it is safe.

“Go inside the house and you can watch the birds from the balcony” said her mom.

“Yes!!!” exclaimed Anamika.

It never occurred to her that she can watch it comfortably at her eye level from the balcony of her home, rather than look up and strain her neck.

Anamika felt a new responsibility, ‘protecting the nest and the birds that trusted them to have their home near her home on her Yellow Tree’.

She shifted her play area to the balcony. She painted in her color book and played with her toys, while the birds ‘lived’ in their nest under her watchful eyes.

Many days passed, since the house warming of her avian guests.

Her mom told her that the ‘Momma Bird’ has laid eggs and is hatching it like the hen does at her grandparent’s home.

She don’t like hens as they poop in the sand where she plays, but the ‘little chicken babies’ are fun to watch.

She found it fascinating to see the ‘Papa bird ‘bring food to ‘Momma bird’ just like her dad does, But birds didn’t have to cook their food like her mom does.

She was learning the complexities of life. The thinning line of diplomacy called love in the fast forwarded world.

One afternoon while her mom was giving her lunch, she asked her mom.
“What if ‘Papa Bird’ lost its way? There are so many /Yellow Trees’ and what if it never comes back?”

“No, He won’t. It knows its way to its home. They can identify their home, the way you identify yours” replied her mom giving her food.

We are all bound by an unknown force, the SOLACE; be it a shoulder, or home or an asylum. It is a belief, a trust that there exist a heart, like a fireplace on a winter night, burning with memories of yesterday, hopes for today and desires for the future, that is waiting for their loved ones arrival. For the crusaders of life, his mind is like a compass that always points to the direction of the most loved heart.

“I will give momma bird biscuits.” Said Anamika, gulping down her food.

..
..

Anamika wanted to see the little birdies, the babies, so would the “Papa Bird” and “Momma Bird”. Everyone was impatient.

It was a Sunday morning.
“Anoooooooooo!!” called her dad.

She sprinted off to the direction of the sound.

He was standing over at the balcony with binocular in his hand.
He took Anamika in his arms and gave the binocular to her. She looked through it at the nest.

“Wowwwwieeeeeeeeee!!” . She giggled in excitement. There inside the nest was three little baby birds. They looked like red wax figures to her, dark red and they got big mouth. The mouth was yellow. It had no feathers. She was not very impressed by the site.
She expected it to be like the little bird hanging inside her car.

She spent almost the whole day looking at the nest through the binocular. Now both the ‘Momma Bird’ and ‘Papa Bird’ were busy bringing food to the ‘baby birds.’

“Where do they find so many worms?“ She had not seen any worms in the walk through her garden that day morning.

If you are clear about what you are looking for, you will find it, when you look for it with your heart, not your eyes. Eyes can trick you.

That night she went to sleep, thinking if the ‘baby birds’ need blanket to keep it warm in the cold night.

..
..

One day a crow was getting closer to the nest and Anamika shouted at it, the crow never moved; then she had to throw the crow with a Color Crayon to shoo it off.
She threw it with a white Color Crayon anyway.

Sometimes the “Papa bird’ and ‘Momma Bird ‘come inside the balcony looking for spiders and insects then she would sit like a statue, as not to scare the birds, just her eye balls tracking the movement of the birds.

Weeks passed and the little baby birds grew feathers and began to move around in the nest.

Anamika watched them with growing excitement everyday.

Epilogue

Anamika sat on the couch near me.

“They left- the birds " she said sobbing.

“Okay, may be they left for a vacation. The way you go to Ooty at times.” I replied

She didn’t say anything.

“Why did they leave me? Don’t they trust me?”

It’s the question which most of us have faced in life one time or the other. I clearly didn’t have an answer for her; even I was hunting for an answer.
It is true that when the person whom we found comfort and solace in life paces up ahead, never looking back. We feel trapped in the worm holes, dark and lost.
It is because, we never take the thoughts and eyes off the person who left us and lie to ourselves so much and convince ourselves that the blurred figure in the distance will materialize back.
Deep inside me I know it’s not their absence that’s hurting her, it must be the feeling of being ignored after all they shared together!, though silent moments.Moments they 'treasured'.

The feeling of being worthless, Worthless feeling it is!!

Why do they leave us? Circumstances may be.

When one learns to live without the warmth of another; the magic is lost. The umbilical cord that connects them snaps. Here I would say the ‘adaptation’ not in evolutionary level but in behavioral level should take shape.

She had already learned a valuable lesson in her life. Funny!! Life is; the way it teaches us many things.

“Okay!! Where is your brother?” I asked her

“Ooty” she replied looking at my face. She may be wondering about the connection between her brother and the birds. May be thinking, I am gonna say, it went to meet her brother?

“What is he doing there?”

“Studying” was the reply from her.

“Did he ‘leave’ you?

“Noo!”

“See, the birds they have gone to see the world, they are learning to fly, learnign how to make nest and…Hey!! Where is your teddy bear?” I asked her.

She looked at me, then the stairs, slid down the couch and ran up the stairs to her room.

When we love someone so much and when they leave a vacuum in our life our conscious starts the post mortem on our now dead cold memories. This throws up a lot of rhetorical questions that assumes the shape of a hydra that gnaws at our toes where ever we go pulling back, making us sick and giving us the sinking feeling, breathless we would be!

I was sipping on the hot cup of coffee her mom brought me, when Anamika came down hugging her teddy bear close to her chest and with a smile on her face.

Only way in life we can move forward is by “>>>M.O.V.I.N.G >>>> F.O.R.W.A.R.D>>>.” else we run around in circles, which takes us into a deep grave in its whirlpool.

..
..

We both read the cartoons in the newspaper while we waited for her dad to come home after the morning walk.

< LAST SUNDAY >

INSANITY=HUMANITY
INSAN(in Hindi Means Human)
"ITY " is just used for rhyming effect

__________________________

I received a text on my mobile at the Sunday Morning.

"I have started, E.T.A 14.00 Hours."

I made my way through the Security Check at the FORUM Mall. The rendezvous point to meet the SPECIAL ENVOY from  Mysore, Code Named D.D .

Just to check on the progress, I text D.D

"Not entered City Limits Yet. Still in traffic pattern." was the reply to my query.
"Roger. I am already at Zone." I confirmed back.

..
..

"Hmmm, I have to spend some time till D.D shows up on my radar." I thought.
"Yeah! Walk around and "Check Out" life." I told to myself

..
..
I moved around in the mall.

"HOLY COW!!!..MOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! [ The Cow turned into a werewolf!]
"AWESOME..CHIC!! Cant believe my eyes! Center of attraction.. Man!!. This is gonna be a happening Sunday.. Oohh la la.."

Man! Her curves are, wow! sooo P.E.R.F.E.C.T. .Perfect figure in all respect.
The right height, Impressive. She was fair, with right curves.. ahem ahem...at the right places.

I moved closer to her. I want to get near her, see her at a close range.

I made my way through the crowd, never taking my eyes off her. Sure, the rest of the Femme Fatales in the mall would be green about her and would really be possessive about their boy friends now and would hold his hands tight; Funny! Life is.

She has beautiful clear eyes. Eyes the windows to the innocent soul. Wow!. She has a warm, welcoming smile on her curved lips. She stood there knowing that, so many pair of eyes are raping her [Excuse my pun! Being brutally honest, that is].

Everything about her was exciting. I bet there would be many like me in the shopping mall, who would want to have a date  with her. Take her down the curved path that leads to a private beach, and unwind.

I really wanted to feel her curves, touch her. I mean...I am a man. Every human has temptations, like girls love chocolates, men fancy girls who look like chocolate. Temptations existed from the RED APPLE SCANDAL, I believe.

Even Former POTUS [President Of United States ] ,Mr. Clinton had his temptations.
So ..I don’t think I need to clarify anything more here, cuz that would make it more perverted.

I want to get a 360 on her. So I pushed my way through the crowd and was now behind her.

"WOW!!!! Billions of Blue Blistering Whatever!!!!". Speechless I am. Just the right, smooth outward curve. The skirts too revealing what’s to be revealed.
Her leather boots, well cleaned and the steel on it shined while rays of sunlight fell on it.
Her sides were well sculptured.Good God, they are killing me.

I moved closer, Electrifying!!!!

Someone pushed me, and my hands rubbed against her side, It felt cold ,smooth and like silk.

I was standing closer to her and I heard a foreigner comment about her to her friend with a teasing smile.

"Yeah!! They look beautiful from the outside, but its crammed in the inside."

To that generalization I said to myself

"What ever! Young lady... Its suited for Indian Conditions".

I moved closer to beautiful girl and opened her door!. I sank into the driver's seat, closed her door!
The Firangi chic was wrong. It has more space. Large display screen on temperature control. USB support in the center.2 DIN  in Dash Audio, the steering wheel is real stylish with remote functions. Ergonomic Seats and yeah, the drivers seat is controlled by pumping system for height adjustment. The instrument panels looked cool.!

Not bad.. Nice car!! I want to sit there and be alone with her for sometime, but there were people on the outside who want to check out too.

I got out of the new i20 from Hyundai, which is a new release in Indian market and closed her doors behind me.

The sales representative came and asked me- "Sir, are you interested in the new car ?"
"The whole package looks good. I was just checking her out" I replied and walked away.

Next destination. - LANDMARK, where I can read comics for free and check out on new game titles.

..

..

..

..

15:30 hours and D.D was still not on my radar. I thought I would check on D.D.

I made a call to D.D and D.D. picked the call.

"I am at rendezvous point Code Named K.F.C Side. I just reached here and was about to call you." replied D.D

"Roger that! Be right with you in a minute." I confirmed back.

I got out of LANDMARK and moved towards the K.F.C Side.

"Welcome to Bangalore. E.C.F Welcomes you comrade!!." I welcomed D.D

"How did you identify me?" asked D.D. I was meeting D.D for the first time.

"Well! I am programmed for that." I said with a grin.

..

..

"Well! Ya know, we have unrest in some hostile territory. Let us find some solution to neutralize it first. What say comrade?" I asked.

"Yeah! What is the strategy?" asked D.D

"See, we can't go easy on it. Diplomacy won't work any more. We won’t negotiate. We need action and for that we need right weapons. The heavy hardware. So lets check out all countries and continents where we can get the right thing to neutralize the political unrest. " I replied

We got into "TRANSIT".

Let us start our search in Mexico. They are known for their hot weapons. Those thing which when dropped can burn from the inside creating major devastation at times, becoming uncontrollable and situations can get out of hand. I briefed D.D on Mexican armaments.

We cruised to South Indian side which D.D said is not apt to use in such delicate political condition, where timing is the key.

We moved to Bombay and looked at the display.. hmm.. Nothing impressive.

Time was running out and we took subway and ended up in Rajdhani.

Somehow all the Desi weapons did not impress us much.

Destination "Beijing" I said. "The Chinese. They have all things." Anyway we hail Indo Sino Bro Bro.. Right?" I asked D.D

We didn't want to waste anymore time and barged in, ordered for 2 rounds of schezuan chicken and Thai Fried Chicken; to complete political alliance we thought of having collaboration with the U.S and ordered for 2 full rounds of Coke.

The Chinese weapons with U.S political alliance with Indian Diplomacy would neutralize our hunger and bring peace in hostile territory.

D.D and I was hunting for a place to sit and discuss the new world order while having our food.

I could not hold any longer, I wanted to confess to D.D something. It was growing on me.

"D.D,  there’s some information for you! I never won any 'musical chair' competition in my life; so don't expect me to grab a chair." I confessed.

D.D acknowledged it with a grin and a nod and spotted a place for us.

< SLEEP LESS >

I was visiting my cousin a few months back, when this realisation dawned on my at midnight, err..something like the "midnight sun".
My cousin was sleeping, shaped like a peper clip under a heavy blanket, must be tired after waging war in virtual civilizations- The Age Of Empires.

I was lying on my side, trying to get sleep. Something..I miss something, I could not sleep. Seems like the Sleep Fairy is watching late night movie on H.B.O and chomping on popcorn, never bothering about me or a billion others like me, who are in the same state as of me.

My mind wandered around, categorically bringing random thoughts into my sleepless mind.

Hmm.....

Conscious: You are awake!

Me: Yeah, Thank you very much for reminding me.

Conscious: Can we bug the cousin, just to kill some time.

Me: No! He wont react. He knows my ways.

Conscious: How about counting sheeps ?

Me:Yeah.. nice idea. Let's count some dollars.

Me:1,2,3,4,5,6,7.....

..
..

Cousin: Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Count Slowly, Okay. I am trying to sleep.

Me: What do you think I am trying to do? Plucking chicken feathers?

Cousin: What ever... (In soft, pleasing manner)Count Slowly. Okay.

Me.Okay.1................. 2........................ 3.............................4....................

Cousin: Slow means...low voice. Please!

Me:hmmmmmmmm..(Yawns!!)

Something’s wrong..something’s..wrong...I mean...Something missing..
..

Rolls on the bed
..

Rolls again!
..

Cousin: Stop moving around. Don’t roll around. One more roll and you are sleeping on the floor.

Gee..! This guy is no entertainment.

Something missing in this night..
The sound of ceiling fan, vehicle on the road at times coupled with other nocturnal sounds of insects.

Me: Hey dude! Can you bark?

Cousin: What the F_ _ _ !(Rhymes with luck; sure some guys do have all the luck!)

Me: Yeah! ya know  it goes like Bowwww...wow.www..wwwwwww..ooooooowww!!

Cousin: S_ _ _ (Add "hit' to "S").Yeah Bangalore! You miss those barking sound. Don’t tell me that!

Me: Yeah! Kinda..I mean. that’s not barking sound, its a symphony in off key harmony, every street has its own Rock Band. Buddy, you will never understand how much they are a part of life.

Cousin: Dream of a bitch and you get good sleep.

Me:(Kids, they grow up too fast.) What does mom give you everyday? Junior Horlicks? Never mind.

.......THE RAIN MAKER .......

A pleasant evening. The pale, heatless ball of the sun on the southern horizon, painted the sky in gold and red. Graying glow of few clouds - the twilight.
The young man , sat on the park bench near to his lady love. The wind had subsided to the faintest intermittent whisper
..
..

"Isn't it wonderful?" asked the young man.
He got no reply.

She turned from her contemplation of the nature’s artistic skills and smiled at him.
He smiled back and took a deep breathe. She moved closer to him, rested her head on his shoulders.
They were watching a small kid play by the fountain. The kid was happy and her giggles filled the air.

The young man whispered in her ears- "How about a rain to wash away the unknowable?"
She sighed and held his hands in hers and cuddled on his shoulders.

The young man sat, his head tilted back and looked at the pallid sky. He closed his eyes in contemplation.
...

...

A rain drop fell on her cheek, another on her eyelids, another on her foreheads; felt like soft kisses; each one fulfilling the inner self.

She opened her eyes. The air was cold, it surrounded her.

She looked at him. There were rain drops on his glasses, he was smiling at the skies, looking at it.

She smiled at him -"It's the rain, it’s really raining….. I mean" she said excited and giggled like the kid near the fountain.

He squeezed her fingers gently and nodded his head in response.

The rain drenched the green and the walkway, the kid near the fountain had taken shelter under a big tree. People stood up and started walking out of the park in an orderly chaos.

In the palm of her hand, she collected a few drops of rain and sprayed at him.
"You RAIN MAKER”- said she, giggled .

She sat closer to him; her heart filled with a new belief, she felt happy and glad.
He smiled and thought "I washed away the unknowable."
__________________________

After hearing the narration, Sorcerer said to the Creator " It rained..Wow ! "
"Yes for five minutes. The Rain Maker had made many things happen since then. He believes in the universe, you know." replied the Creator.
"When you really want something, the whole universe conspires for that in your favor.....Hmmm..Mind is a powerful thing. It is! “added the Sorcerer.

..

..
"Maktub" said both at the same time
